We support Mark for Mayor
Posted by Mark on October 30, 2009
I have been overwhelmed by the level of support we’ve received for the campaign. The qualifying contributions necessary to participate in the Voter-Owned Elections program blew through the required threshold and are still coming in.
Here are the folks who have lent their name to the endorsement ad we are publishing in this week’s papers. I wish we’d had time to reach out to everyone, so I’m sorry if we didn’t get your name in. It’s too late to add additional names, but you can show your support by adding a comment to this post and telling others why you’re supporting Mark Kleinschmidt for Mayor.

Mark likely has as many supporters on the West Coast as he does in the South! There is no one to whom I would more happily and with greater confidence entrust the future of Chapel Hill, the town where I spent the happiest and most important years of my life, a town, yes, but a “city on a hill” to those dedicated to progressive social justice. Mark typifies all that is best in this, the best of towns.
Add me to the list, enthusiastically
I believe in and support Mark Kleinschmidt for mayor of Chapel Hill!
Mark has demonstrated he has the skills and the vision to serve Chapel Hill well in these challenging times!
I support Mark for Mayor! We need more leaders who are thoughtful, search for compromise and consensus, and believe in the future of our community!
Good luck, Mark! The future of public transportation, sustainable development and affordable housing in Chapel Hill are at stake in this election – and you are the one with the experience and passion to pursue the shared goals or our two towns. We are counting on you!
I support Mark Kleinschmidt for mayor. I trust that he will lead the community forward in a manner that is wise and inclusive.
I support Mark for Mayor!
We endorse Mark for Mayor! He’s bright, intelligent, progressive and exactly THE MAN for the job!
I would like to join this distinguished list of people in offering my support for Mark to be the next mayor of Chapel Hill.
I have gotten to know Mark personally during my work as a volunteer for his campaign. He cares deeply for this town, he knows the issues we face, and he has the experience to do the job.
John Rees
I love Chapel Hill for it’s vibrant downtown, civic engagement, and commitment for looking for new and creative solutions that protect and support Chapel Hill citizens. Mark has been part of the team of citizens who have been working to make and keep this one of the best places in the nation to live. I believe he is our best option for Chapel Hill mayor.
Mark’s service on the Town Council has been exemplary of a holistic approach and in the tradition of the progressive Chapel Hill values which have formed this famous town. He takes into account the economic, societal, and environmental impacts of policy. Periodically, the local profits-first activists mount energetic campaigns to elect candidates whose primary focus is promoting development without the overall appreciation for the societal and environmental implications. It is essential for the unique and successful work-in-progress that is Chapel Hill for Mark to be elected Mayor.
Mark is the kind of leader Chapel Hill needs: progressive, thoughtful, eager to build consensus without sacrificing his values, and balanced in his approach to making policy. Mark is clearly committed to social justice through his work with the Center for Death Penalty Litigation, and this commitment shows in his passion for improving the situation of children of color in our public schools, and preserving (and creating) affordable housing so those who work in Chapel Hill can live in Chapel Hill. And, as a queer mom who is raising two daughters, I would be so proud to help elect Chapel Hill’s first openly gay mayor, and to show my girls that anyone can be a leader–from mayor of Chapel Hill to President of the United States.
As his former employee and friend, I have always called Mark “Mr. Chapel Hill” because his love and vision for Chapel Hill is inspiring and infectious. He is a great leader and will make government responsive to the people. I support Mark for Mayor!
As a citizen of the Triangle area, it is important to support amazing candidates in local area elections. This is why I support Mark for Mayor. Not only is he a great leader but a role model for anyone that believes in equality and justice. I am proud to know Mark and I believe he is the best person for Mayor of Chapel Hill!
I support Mark for Mayor! Mark is the most qualified candidate for Mayor of Chapel Hill. Knowing the unique background and personal experiences that he brings to the table coupled with his experience in local politics to match, I know that Mark will make a phenomenal Mayor for Chapel Hill.
I support Mark Kleinschmidt for Mayor. There is a reason why Chapel Hill is such a desirable community, with great schools without the racial divide and dissention of Wake County, great air quality, good public transportation, a nice downtown without suburban sprawl — because of the progressive values of Chapel Hill, best represented by Mark Kleinschmidt
It’s not every day that you meet truly good human beings. Not only is Mark Kleinschmidt a wonderful soul and good human being, but he is experienced, accountable, professional, and exactly the person that Chapel Hill needs as a leader. He does more than just talk-he delivers.
I support Mark!
